The Parish of Wimbledon is a Team Ministry in the Anglican Diocese of Southwark.
The oldest church in the Parish, St Mary’s, has existed since at least 1086, when it was recorded in the Domesday Book. The current Victorian church was completed in 1843. Memorials in the churchyard date back to the 16th century; most notable among them perhaps is the tomb of Sir Joseph William Bazelgette, who built the London sewer system and London Embankment. Just a few hundred metres from the famous All-England Lawn Tennis Club and Croquet Club, home to the annual Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships, the church’s 196ft spire is seen regularly on TV.
St Mary’s has four Sunday services, all traditionally Anglican with an emphasis on family worship. For full details, see www.stmaryswimbledon.org
