Mildmay Mission Hospital

Mildmay Mission Hospital

Mildmay Mission Hospital is an international Christian charity providing holistic HIV/AIDS care, education and health service development.

Dedicated to improving the lives of men, women and children challenged by the illness, disability, prejudice and deprivation that HIV/AIDS can bring, Mildmay’s work is transforming healthcare services in the UK, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania and parts of Eastern Europe.

After opening Europe’s first specialist AIDS hospice unit in London in 1988, Mildmay Hospital underwent considerable expansion, adding residential care, day care, an education centre and an inclusive nursery. Today, it is best known as the UK’s leading provider of specialist rehabilitation for people with chronic HIV/AIDS-related conditions. Overseas, it has created dedicated centres and developed innovative training programmes to fight the threat of HIV/AIDS.

Its programmes are rooted in Mildmay’s original “Good Samaritan” philosophy of sharing Christ’s love among the sick and vulnerable. Yet Mildmay’s approach is distinctly inclusive, inter-denominational and holistic. The charity works successfully with those of other faiths and those of no faith and takes care to ensure all training programmes are culturally sensitive and founded on evidence-based best practice.

With a growing, international HIV/AIDS population of around 40 million, with 14 million AIDS orphans, Mildmay continually faces new challenges, particularly in resource-limited countries and communities.

“I am proud to be a patron of the Mildmay Mission Hospital because I believe the work they do is invaluable.”
Dame Judi Dench
