The Hindu Council UK

The Hindu Council UK (HCUK) is the UK’s largest and most comprehensive national network of Hindu temple bodies and Hindu cultural, youth and women’s organisations.

The Council was founded in 1994 after extensive consultation within the British Hindu community revealed a desire for a single, representative body able to co-ordinate all the different schools of Hindu theology within the UK and make representations on their behalf.

With this mandate, HCUK ensures the UK Hindu community has an effective voice on policy matters at all Government levels. Along with other major faith councils, HCUK consults regularly with various Government departments (including the DCLG, Home Office, DfES. MOD and the Department of Trade and Industry) and is represented at other government related bodies such as the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, ACAS, CAB, etc.

HCUK also plays a crucial role in enhancing mutual understanding among the major UK faiths predominant in the UK. A member of the Inter-Faith Network, HCUK is committed to inter-faith dialogue at both a national, regional and local level.
